When I look at Summit House, I see a quality building. I'm not the only one. I've been around repair people and craftsmen who visit here for the first time. I've heard them say, "Wow. This building is well maintained. I hate to tell you what we see around town."
An issue I've heard raised many times at Summit House meetings is "cleanliness." An owner will say, "I saw a little dust in the stairwell" or "The bookshelves in the library have some dust." There is a simple fact about our building: It is cleaner today than it ever has been in its history. Since James acquired the garage sweeping machine, he removes dust before it enters our building. Because of that, he collects much less dust when he vacuums the carpets. He bought a commercial carpet cleaning machine. Our building is a clean one.
But, there is something about Summit House I, myself, wish would "improve." Before discussing it, I need to remind myself I'm like everyone else. That is, I moved here from somewhere else and brought my bias about how things should look, what is important and how things should be done. We lived in the same house for 40 years. The last 30 of those years we applied no fertilizer or herbicide to our lawn, nothing. It held its green better during drought than our heavily treated neighbor's grass. All leaves and grass were composted on the lawn. Driving past or walking past our house, the lawn looked lush and green. I will admit when walking on the grass one could see some weeds and bare spots. When discussing my lawncare philosophy on Face Book I draw the ire of some readers when I point out that no one has ever died from looking at a dandelion. We were proud we sent no runoff fertilizer or herbicide into the local rivers.
I wish our lawn maintenance put more emphasis on our natural environment, less herbicide and fertilizer. These are washed from our lawn into the river. My view has not and probably will not prevail at Summit House, so I best move on.
Here is a chance for others to chime in with their ideas about things they think Summit House could improve. Let me set down a rule to list only a couple of issues and please make comments brief. Please enter your name and unit. Thanks for doing that.

Amy - agree about sign, it would help visitors and delivery people day or night.
Frank - unfortunately I neither married into nor inherited money - frivolous spending in this building drives me nuts!
Ryan - I also would like a dog but have to agree with Frank. Not all people are as careful with our halls, elevator, etc. as the majority.
John - I just asked one of the board members this week why the leaves weren't just mulched. I would think it would be more efficient and stop the complaints about the leaves.
I agree with Jon about proper over site of our finances by the rank and file residents It seems we have board members who either married well or inherited and have never had to watch their money Those of us who have had to work for what we have do not want to see it pissed away on frivolous expense that some board member pushes I think we need to listen to what Jon has to say he is probably the most educated and experienced person in the building as he served as Mayor of a large city dealt with unions and general public As well as being a college professor🤞how about we listen?
Before I came to Summit House I lived at 3662 Ingersoll which was very nicely kept until someone decided small pets could be allowed under 10lbs within a year the size limit was dropped and there were urin spots in the elevator and hall ways pets have no place in condo living!!!!!
Amy--As an old guy, it is reassuring to learn others have trouble spotting the turn into Summit House at night. :)
I wish our house signage faced East and west and was lit up so we are better identified. Our driveway is easy to drive past. IMO :). And a hot tub would be super.
To Ryan--I think there are others who would like pets also. Thanks for posting.
To Frank--I agree with you. I'm hoping this site will be a place where you and others can voice your opinions and they will be seen by Board members. There will be lots of opportunities coming up when various specific issues are discussed. Thanks for posting.
I would like to be able to have a pet (that isn't a fish) in my home.
We need a venue for the people at summit house who don’t feel they have a voice to express our opinion
